Lester Holt Stepping Down As ‘NBC Nightly News’ Anchor After 10 Years: Where He’s Going Next

Lester Holt is signing off from the “NBC Nightly News” desk for good. The anchor will step down from the long-running program in June, NBC announced on Feb. 24. Though Holt’s successor has yet to be named, fans won’t have to go far to see what he’ll do next. The renowned broadcaster is moving into a full-time role at NBC’s “Dateline,” where he’s served as principal anchor since 2011. According to the network, Holt reflected on the transition in an internal memo to staffers at both shows and noted how grateful he is to have reached this point after decades in the business. “A smile comes to my face when I think that with ‘Nightly News,’ and ‘Dateline,’ I have now anchored two of the most successful and iconic television news programs in broadcast history,” he reportedly wrote. “As a 20-year-old radio reporter on the police beat chasing breaking news around San Francisco, I could never have imagined my career path would unfold in the way it has. What an amazing ride.”
