Jane Fonda Calls Out Donald Trump In Passionate SAG Awards Speech: ‘Empathy Is Not Weak Or Woke’

Jane Fonda called out President Donald Trump during the Screen Actor’s Guild Awards Sunday night. The actress was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award. During her speech, Fonda began talking about an actor’s responsibility to empathize with the characters they play, before mentioning Sebastian Stans portrayal of Donald Trump as an example. “While you may hate the behavior of your character, you have to understand and empathize with the traumatized person you’re playing right? I’m thinking Sebastian Stan in ‘The Apprentice.’” She went on to encourage the room of Hollywood stars to have empathy. “Make no mistake, Empathy is not weak or woke. And by the way, woke just means you give a damn about other people.”
