President Joe Biden Addresses Nation After Donald Trump’s Election Win Over Kamala Harris

President Joe Biden addressed the nation in his first speech since Donald Trump’s election win on Nov. 5. Biden shared that he spoke with President-Elect Trump and assured him that their teams will work with one another to ensure a peaceful and orderly transition. The 81-year-old also congratulated Vice President Kamala Harris on her “inspiring campaign.” “She gave her whole heart, effort, and she and her entire team should be proud of the campaign they ran,” he said. The President then went on to stress the importance of unity for all Americans. “I’ve said many times, you can’t love your country only when you win. You can’t love your neighbor only when you agree. Something I hope we can do no matter who you voted for is see each other not as adversaries, but as fellow Americans,” he said. Later in his speech, President Biden reflected on what he called his “historic” presidency and assured Harris supporters to not give up, saying, “Together, we’ve changed America for the better. Now we have 74 days to finish the term, our term. Let’s make every day count. That’s the responsibility we have to the American people. Look folks, you all know it, setbacks are unavoidable but giving up is unforgivable.” He added, “Remember, a defeat does not mean we are defeated. We lost this battle. The America of your dreams is calling you to get back up.”
