Maggie Smith Dead At 89: Her Memorable Roles In ‘Downton Abbey,’ ‘Harry Potter’ & More
Maggie Smith’s sons announced on Sept. 27 that the British acting legend had passed away at the age of 89. Over her more than 70-year career, she won 4 Emmys, one Tony, and 2 Oscars – one in 1970 for the drama “The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie” and other in 1978 for the comedy “California Suite.” Maggie was perhaps most beloved for the two brilliant roles that came later in her career: Crawley, Dowager Countess of Grantham in “Downton Abbey” and Professor Minerva McGonagall in the “Harry Potter” film series.
