How Ed Sheeran Came Up With The Idea Of NYC Music Special Filmed In One Take
Ed Sheeran and director Philip Barantini spoke to Access Hollywood guest correspondent Emily Orozco about their 1-hour Netflix music special that was filmed in one take. Ed described how the idea came about and why he chose New York City for the perfect location despite the logistical challenges. Besides Ed’s love for performing for random New Yorkers while filming the special, he also shared his joy for singing for his two daughters. “They like certain songs, if I sing the ‘Moana’ soundtrack it goes down well. Yesterday I sung a new song and they were kind of like, ‘Can you sing Moana?’” he said. When asked about knowing the lyrics to the Disney hit’s song “You’re Welcome,” Ed shared, “When you have children who fall asleep ever single f****ing day to that soundtrack, you know that song…I didn’t sit down to learn that.” Ed helped a couple with an iconic proposal during the Netflix special, but his own proposal with wife Cherry Seaborn didn’t go as smoothly after it started raining and he already had the date engraved on the ring. “I had to do it that day and it chucked it down with rain, she didn’t want to go for a walk, obviously…We actually put on an episode of ‘The Simpsons’ and I just did it,” he recalled. Taylor Swift recently revealed during an interview with Jimmy Fallon that she couldn’t tell her close friend Ed about her engagement with Travis Kelce because he doesn’t have a cell phone and his only technology is using an iPad. Well, Ed told Access that he no longer has an iPad either and why he cherishes the time he spends in-person with his friends. “My way of viewing it, is like, me and Taylor are mates and I will see her. I saw her a week after that happened, so I did that interview and I saw her and you talk in-person. I kind of feel like, being in touch with everyone, you lose actual human connection…When I saw Taylor we had like a 4-hour catch up and it’s life stuff rather than, I don’t know,” Ed explained, adding, “I’m not self-conscious about my relationship with her, we’ve been friends for very, very many years. We’re super close and we see each other when we see each other. When we see each other, we lock back in to where we left off.” “ONE SHOT with Ed Sheeran: A Music Experience” is now streaming on Netflix.
