Tamayo Perry, Beloved Surfer & ‘Pirates Of The Caribbean’ Actor, Dead At 49 After Shark Attack

Tamayo Perry, a pro surfer and lifeguard who appeared in the “Pirates of the Caribbean” movie franchise, has died after an apparent shark attack in Hawaii. He was 49.

Perry was killed off Oahu’s north shore on Sunday, according to local authorities. In a press conference on Monday, Honolulu Emergency Services officials said that Ocean Safety responders rode jet skis to the area of a reported shark attack near Mālaekahana Beach, but Perry could not be saved at the scene.

His body reportedly appeared to have suffered multiple shark bites and he was pronounced dead upon being transported back to shore.

Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi issued a statement mourning Perry’s loss and honoring his legacy as an “eight-year veteran of Honolulu Ocean Safety and well-known North Shore waterman.”

Perry was a beloved figure in the community who “exemplified bravery, commitment and a deep sense of duty, serving our community with unwavering dedication,” Blangiardi continued. “His heroic actions and tireless efforts to ensure the safety of our residents and visitors will never be forgotten.”

In addition to the a “Pirates” sequel, Perry’s on-screen credits include “Blue Crush” and “Hawaii Five-0,” per his IMDb page.
