Crazy Town Frontman Shifty Shellshock’s Cause Of Death Revealed

New insight into Crazy Town frontman Shifty Shellshock’s sudden passing has been revealed.

Days after the musician, whose given name was Seth Binzer, passed away at age 49, his manager confirmed to multiple outlets on Friday that his death was due to an accidental overdose.

Howie Hubberman told NBC News that Binzer was “a performer and a friend” who died of not only an overdose but “a broken heart,” noting that he “wanted to get upright and make peace with his world.”

Hubberman additionally shared with People that Binzer “never was able to reach out on a more successful level to deal with his addictions” following his band’s success with breakout single “Butterfly” in the late ’90s.

“We all tried, but ultimately we all failed, or Shifty would still be here,” he continued, adding, “The cause of death was a combination of prescription drugs and street purchased drugs. Shifty was a friend and really wanted to get himself fixed — unfortunately no one had the exact tools to do this, myself included.”

Online records for the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner had yet to list an official determination for Binzer’s cause of death pending toxicology reports as of Friday, but previously confirmed he died on June 24 at his residence.

His former bandmate Bret “Epic” Mazur shared a lengthy Instagram post in the wake of the sad news, not only mourning Binzer’s loss but also sharing sorrow for his difficult journey with addiction.

“As the other half of Crazy Town, Seth’s incredible talent and larger-than-life personality left an indelible mark on all who knew him and on the music we created together,” the statement read in part, adding, “Seth struggled with the challenges of maintaining sobriety throughout his life, a battle that he continuously fought privately and publicly. Despite the hardships, he brought immense joy and energy into the lives of those around him. I wish with all my heart that his story could have ended differently, but we find solace in the hope that Seth has finally found the peace he was searching for so desperately all these years.”

Binzer previously appeared on “Celebrity Rehab” and its follow-up series “Sober House.” Per Variety, he is survived by three children.
