Seth MacFarlane will make his “Saturday Night Live” hosting debut this weekend, opening the iconic sketch show’s 38th season.
Despite the unknown territory, the funnyman says he’s keeping his nerves at bay.
“[‘SNL’] is a well-oiled machine. I figure, you know, these athletes come on and they do fine – I should be alright,” Seth told Access Hollywood with a laugh, during a rehearsal at 30 Rock on Thursday. “I’m not crazy nervous. I’m definitely trying to be on my game and at my best, but it’s really about enjoying it.”
Seth is the first host to work with “SNL’s” new cast members Cecily Strong, Tim Robinson and Aidy Bryant, and the “Family Guy” creator said the newbies seem to be fitting right in.
“They pick them well because it’s hard to tell at times whether somebody is new or not… they’re very well-selected,” he said, when asked what it’s been like to rehearse with the show’s newest cast members.
As for Seth’s famous “Family Guy” characters (the 38-year-old writer/actor/producer voices Peter, Brian and Stewie Griffin on his FOX animated series), he hinted they make a cameo on Saturday’s show.
“Possibly, possibly, yep,” he said with a smile, when asked if any of his “FG” roles will pop up on “SNL,” adding that he wasn’t at liberty to divulge any more details. “That’s enough, I think.”
Seth also dished on the success of his latest film, “Ted,” (featuring Mark Wahlberg and “Family Guy” alum Mila Kunis along with a foul-mouthed, lady-loving CGI teddy bear voiced by Seth), and revealed a sequel may be in the works.
“There is a chance there will be a ‘Ted 2.’ I don’t know exactly when, but we would like to do one,” he said, adding that there would have to be some sort of “evolution” for the characters. “Whether that means psychological growth for either John or Ted, I’m not sure.”
Watch Seth’s “Saturday Night Live” debut – with musical guest Frank Ocean — when Season 38 premieres at 11:30 PM on Saturday on NBC.
