Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman are reuniting on-screen in “Deadpool & Wolverine.”
After teasing fans for years, the two are finally sharing the screen again in the third installment of the “Deadpool” franchise and Ryan told Access Hollywood’s guest correspondent Emily Orozco it was like “winning the lottery” when Hugh confirmed he wanted to do the film.
After committing to the project Hugh got in tremendous shape to reprise his role as the famous X-Men character and Ryan said it was “wild” seeing his transformation after starring in the “The Music Man.”
“He basically looked like if Dick Van Dyke went on a crazy diet for a long time and suddenly cut to a year later, we are shooting this movie and what he’s done it’s remarkable,” Ryan said. “But also, I was in the gym with him, so I see the disciple and for him he sets a really high bar.”
Even though the two are known for poking fun at each other, they candidly told Access what solidified their friendship.
“Working together I just knew I liked him, and you can meet a lot of people on set and go ‘I really like that person’ and maybe we’ll run into each other, maybe we won’t. But, as soon as we got together and talked and after the film it was like, ‘Oh this is a real friendship. This is someone I can tell anything to.’ This is someone whose rooting for me and I’m rooting for him,” Hugh said.
“We project this goofing around and you know taking the piss out of each other and that kind of stuff but in real life we talk about all the vulnerable stuff and it’s good,” Ryan added.
“Deadpool & Wolverine” hits theaters July 26.
