The most talked-about scene in Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock’s “The Proposal” might be the pair’s naked run-in – and Ryan told Access Hollywood’s Billy Bush on Saturday at the film’s junket that “it’s a full collision.”
“If I didn’t know Sandra Bullock completely before, I do now,” he said. “I know her in ways that [husband] Jesse James would turn me into some sort of flying curd cottage cheese-type pudding if he knew. It’s pretty incredible.”
But Ryan said that the scene – which took three days to film and over a dozen takes – was more silly than sexy on the set.
“It’s actually ridiculous,” he said. “Not only are you naked, you’re doing a stunt as well. It’s like expertly lit Cirque de Soleil porn.”
The star, who showed off some superheroic muscles in “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” earlier this month, took steps to get in shape for the role.
“I was training for a marathon at the time, so that was my workout,” he said. “I had to do these 5, 6, 7 mile runs every morning. That was enough.”
And of his on-screen chemistry with his co-star, Ryan said it was an easy fit.
“She and I have known each other for 8 or 9 years, so we had this friendship already.” He said. “[The movie is] kind of our chemistry in real life.”
But unlike many romantic comedies, Ryan added that he was “the leading lady.”
“She’s [Spencer] Tracy and I get to be [Katherine] Hepburn, because the role reversal is prevalent from the get-go,” he said.
Ryan has kept quiet on his own proposal to now-wife Scarlett Johansson, but he joked to Billy that asking her to be his bride wasn’t easy.
“The hardest part was to compress all of that love, all of that joy into just one text message. And then it was just hitting send,” he said.
“The Proposal” will be in theaters on June 19.
