Ronda Rousey will get another shot at Holly Holm.
UFC President Dana White said July 9, 2016 – the date of UFC
200 – will mark the Rousey-Holm rematch, following last month’s stunning fight.
White made the announcement to the Los Angeles Times on Wednesday.
“It’s Rousey,” the UFC boss told The Times of who
Holm’s next opponent would be.
While a rematch was inevitable, following Holm’s stunning
upset of Rousey – handing the former champ her first professional loss, it
appears the news may not sit well with Holm’s camp.

“I’m not sure Ronda will be ready for a July fight,”
Holm’s manager, Lenny Fresquez, told The Times. “She took a severe beating
and I don’t think it’s in her best interest to take the next fight so fast.”
Fresquez said he’d rather see Holm defend her title against
another fighter, like top-ranked Miesha Tate (whom Rousey has defeated twice in
her career), instead of waiting for the rematch with Rousey.
“Holly’s used to staying active,” Fresquez said. “We’re
from the old school and we believe the No. 1 contender is there for a reason. …
[Tate] deserves a shot, but it’s not for me to decide.”
White, however, isn’t too concerned with any dissenting
opinions.
“We’re real concerned with his opinion,” White told
The Times in jest.
In an interview with ESPN the Magazine, Rousey opened up
about the loss to Holm, and said the road to recovery wouldn’t be easy – or quick.
“It might be three to six months before I
can eat an apple, let alone take an impact,” she said.
