NFL & Pepsi Issue Statement Following Adele Super Bowl Halftime Show Rumors

Adele will not be playing the Super Bowl, it seems.

On Sunday, the NFL and Pepsi issued a joint statement to
Billboard, noting the organizations hadn’t “extended a formal offer to Adele or anyone
else” for the plum gig.

“The NFL and Pepsi are big
fans of Adele. We have had conversations with several artists about the Pepsi
Super Bowl Halftime Show. However, we have not at this point extended a formal
offer to Adele or anyone else,” the NFL and Pepsi said in a statement.
“We are focused on putting together a fantastic show for Houston and we
look forward to revealing that in good time.”

According to CNN, over the weekend, at the British singer’s show at Los Angeles’ Staples Center, Adele said she was asked to perform at the annual sporting event, but turned it down.

“I’m not doing the Super Bowl. Well, come, on. I mean, I mean, come on. That show is not about music, and I don’t really… I don’t dance or anything like that. So, they were very kind, they did ask me, but I did say no,” she said onstage — comments captured in a clip posted by a fan on Twitter.

Last week, the UK’s The Sun ran a report claiming the singer was “set to perform at the Super Bowl half-time show next year,” but also noted in its story that bosses behind the show were still trying to land the singer.
