Jon Cryer On Saying Goodbye To ‘Two And A Half Men’

“Two and a Half Men” concludes its comedy run on Thursday night, and in the weeks leading up to shooting the series finale, Jon Cryer was preparing to say goodbye.

“Lots of therapy,” Jon joked, when AccessHollywood.com asked him during a January visit to the set, how he was preparing for the end of the show.

“This has been a huge part of my, I mean, it’s 12 years of my life, and there was one moment actually, in like the sixth or seventh season, when Charlie [Sheen] and Chuck [Lorre] and Lee [Aronsohn] and I were all standing around having sort of a conference about some issue with the show that week and I looked at all four of us and I said, ‘You know, all of us were married to different people when we started this show.’ We went through a lot of living during the course of this thing.”

And as he prepared to retire Alan Harper’s bathrobes, button downs and casual men’s pants, Jon said he was going to live in the moment.

“I’m dead set against being unhappy during this time. … I am dedicated to enjoying these last few episodes because if I’m sad I’m just gonna regret that I was ever sad doing this,” he told reporters, before quickly adding, “I’m also trying to take as much of the free food that I can.”

Helping to make the final weeks of shooting a little brighter was the joy Jon said his co-star, Ashton Kutcher, helped bring to the set, the result of the actor becoming a first-time dad with wife Mila Kunis.

“The guy comes in every day and he’s just tired, and it’s just fun,” Jon said during the set visit. “It’s just fun to, you know, they’re just a sweet young couple, with a beautiful baby and it’s — we’re always getting the updates and you know, it’s just a fun thing to have going on.”

Asked about moments from behind the scenes of “Two and a Half Men” that he’ll remember fondly, Jon mentioned something simple.

“I love that the guards at the gate know me. I love that. By the way, they still give me sh** if I forget my pass. They still do, but they know me,” he said. “They say, ‘Hey Jon. … Don’t forget your pass!’ But honestly, that was one of my dreams was to be such a part of show business and Hollywood, such as it is, that they knew me when I drove up to the lot.”

As for what’s next, Jon has plans to produce for Warner Bros. He is also hoping to return to a multi-camera sitcom at some point in the future. And he is okay saying goodbye to Alan Harper.

“I honestly I feel like I can put Alan to bed. I’m not gonna miss being comedically nude so often,” Jon told reporters. “I think I’m ready to do something else. Cut to, you know, two years from now. ‘There he is. He’s naked on that show too!”
