Jon Bon Jovi is mourning a devastating family loss. The rocker’s beloved mother, Carol Bongiovi, has passed away.
Jon confirmed the sad news in a statement on July 10, calling Carol “a force to be reckoned with” whose “spirit and can-do attitude shaped this family.”
Adding, “She will be greatly missed.”
According to multiple reports, the matriarch died at a New Jersey hospital on July 9, only three days shy of her 84th birthday.
Carol was a driving force in her famous son’s success, founding the fan club for his now-iconic rock band Bon Jovi and earning the nickname “Mom Jovi” from fans. She and her husband, Jon’s father John Bongiovi Sr., reportedly bought him his first guitar when he was 13 and Carol worked at New York City’s famed Playboy club during his childhood.
She and John Sr. were married for 63 years until her death. She is additionally survived by their two other sons and eight grandchildren, including Jon’s son, Jake Bongiovi, who recently married “Stranger Things” star Millie Bobby Brown.
