Timothée Chalamet completely embodies Bob Dylan in “A Complete Unknown” and he’s telling Access Hollywood’s what part of the iconic musician he knew he had to nail.
“The essence of Bob Dylan, which was a hard thing to capture,” he told Access Hollywood’s Scott Evans at the film’s Los Angeles premiere. “I don’t know. I don’t know, I love the music that Bob Dyan makes and made so I connected with it through that, then I had a great director. You know it’s hard to play an enigma, it’s a big question mark, so this man is a super mysterious figure, the real-life figure of Bob Dylan.”
Well according to Elle Fanning he got it right!

View GalleryThe 26-year-old gushed over Timothée’s work, admitting she was moved to tears the first time she saw him portray Bob in a scene.
“My first day on set actually was a performance that he gives,” she told Access. “Everyone sings live in the film and plays their own instruments in the movie, and he walked out on stage as Bob. I hadn’t seen him as Bob Dylan before and he gave us like a complete concert in the scene and I’m just an audience member observing in the scene and it moved me. The camera was behind my head, but I had tears rolling down my face just hearing him.”
Elle isn’t the only one to praise Timothée for his performance, Bob Dylan publicly gave his approval.
“There’s a movie about me opening soon called A Complete Unknown (what a title!). Timothee Chalamet is starring in the lead role,” the musician wrote on X. “Timmy’s a brilliant actor so I’m sure he’s going to be completely believable as me. Or a younger me. Or some other me. The film’s taken from Elijah Wald’s Dylan Goes Electric – a book that came out in 2015. It’s a fantastic retelling of events from the early ‘60s that led up to the fiasco at Newport. After you’ve seen the movie read the book.”
While talking to Access, the 28-year-old admitted he was “floored” over Bob’s tweet.
Bob Dylan is a man of few words. I’ve probably said more in this interview than he’s ever said publicly, you know what I mean, so to get that sort of affirmation, it’s affirmation. It’s like a pat on your back,” he said.
“A Complete Unknown” hit theaters Dec. 25.
