No Doubt enjoyed a public reunion over the weekend at the Teen Choice Awards, where the band thrilled the crowd with their comeback single, “Settle Down.”
Although the band has kept their punk rock look and trademark sound, demonstrated by Gwen Stefani’s still impressive vocals, No Doubt members revealed how balancing their newly formed families influenced their upcoming album “Push and Shove.”
“I think it’s when we got together to write, [that] was our moment to kind of escape and just be creative and not think about that for a minute and then go back and think about it again,” Gwen told Access Hollywood, when asked about balancing her personal and professional lives.
It has been 10 years since the band has performed together and Gwen, who also wrote the lyrics to “Settle Down,” said that the song reflects the back and forth between work life and family life.
“It’s overwhelming to try to do everything. It is impossible. So there’s a lot of that in the record,” Gwen told Access.
Gwen, herself, has two little boys – Kingston, 5; and Zuma, 3 – while bassist Tony Kanal is father to a little girl. Guitarist/keyboardist Tom Dumont has two boys of his own although drummer Adrien Young was first to enter the world of parenthood when his son Mason was born eight years ago.
“There’s a lot of kids between us so we’re pulled in many different directions but we’re so proud of this record and we put a lot of time into it,” Tom told Access.
No Doubt’s album “Push and Shove” is set to release on September 25.
